Hello, Goshen, and welcome to the very first dispatch from Franzel Restaurant! We're absolutely thrilled to announce that we'll be opening our doors to you in October bringing the warm, hearty, and utterly delicious flavors of authentic German cuisine right here to the heart of the Hudson Valley.
As we are preparing for the launch, we wanted to introduce you to the man behind the magic, our chef and owner, Franz Brendle.
Franz isn't just opening a restaurant; he's sharing a piece of his heritage, a lifetime of passion, and a culinary journey that began right here in New York. Born in Kingston, NY, Franz is the proud son of German immigrants. This heritage instilled in him from a young age a deep connection to German culture, and perhaps most importantly, to its incredible food.
Growing up, Franz’s summers weren't spent just anywhere – they were spent immersed in the vibrant life and flavors of Germany. These trips across the Atlantic to spend time with family, were more than just vacations; they were an education in culinary traditions, regional specialties, and the art of German hospitality. He later cemented this connection during a transformative semester studying in the historic city of Heidelberg, further deepening his understanding and love for the country's rich gastronomic landscape.
But Franz's journey isn't just about his roots; it's also deeply woven into the fabric of the Hudson Valley's restaurant scene. For years, he’s been a familiar face and a respected culinary talent in kitchens across this very region. While he’s honed his skills across various cuisines, his heart has always yearned to bring the authentic tastes of his upbringing to a broader audience. The precision of German baking, the comforting richness of a slow-braised sauerbraten, the crisp perfection of schnitzel – these aren't just dishes to Franz; they are expressions of comfort, family, and tradition.
